Steve Raaymakers studied marine biology and natural resource management at James Cook University, Australia 1983-86. Over the last 22 years
he has worked in integrated coastal and oceans management and in the development and implementation of local, national, regional and global
programmes to manage human use of coastal and marine resources, with a special focus on shipping and port activities and international maritime
affairs.
Born in New Zealand and raised in the Cook Islands, Steve immigrated to Australia in 1982. He has worked with the Great Barrier Reef tourism
industry, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and the Queensland Ports Corporation in Australia and with the South Pacific Regional
Environment Programme in the Pacific Islands region. In 2000 he joined the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London, and in December
2004 completed his contract as Chief Technical Adviser in the IMO Marine Environment Division, responsible for the GEF/UNDP/IMO Global Ballast
Water Management Programme (GloBallast).
Steve established EcoStrategic Consultants in January 2005, and is based in Cairns, Queensland, Australia.
