
Resume Steve Raaymakers
EcoStrategic ConsultantsSteve Raaymakers has a BSc in marine biology and natural resource management from James Cook University, Australia and a Masters in international maritime policy and law from the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources & Security (ANCORS) at the University of Wollongong. He is a highly experienced scientific diver and also an officer in the Royal Australian Navy Reserve.
Over the last 26+ years Steve has worked in integrated coastal and oceans management and in the development and implementation of national, regional and global programs to manage human use of coastal and marine resources, with a special focus on shipping, ports and offshore industries and international maritime affairs. He also has strong experience in international development and working in developing countries and cross-cultural settings.
Born in New Zealand and raised in the Cook Islands, Steve immigrated to Australia in 1982. He has worked with the Great Barrier Reef tourism industry, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and the Queensland Ports Corporation in Australia, and with the South Pacific Regional Environment Programme in the Pacific Islands region. In 2000 he joined the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London, and in December 2004 completed his contract as Chief Technical Adviser in the IMO Marine Environment Division, responsible for the GEF/UNDP/IMO Global Ballast Water Management Programme (GloBallast).
Steve established EcoStrategic Consultants in January 2005, and is based in Cairns, Queensland, Australia, and operates globally.
